What is this event?
This is a Kentucky Derby-themed event to raise funds to support the Dan Dillon Fund at The Olympic Club Foundation (501c3) to support youth golf. As a young caddie and player, Dan credited the game of golf with changing his life. We believe Dan would be proud to continue to support youth golfers and open the door to the game with this fund. Dan was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel and had a standing box at the Kentucky Derby. He would annually meet up with his old friends to attend the Kentucky Derby.
What can I expect?
Like the Kentucky Derby, the Dan Dillon Derby will be a high-energy, fun event with 200 of Dan’s closest friends. Fashion has always been a hallmark of the Kentucky Derby and we encourage Derby Attire or bucket hats in honor of Dan. Dress up, have fun, it’s a celebration.
Team Captains will be responsible for naming the team, collecting teammates, communicating tournament details and providing us with their names and contact information.
What is the Dan Dillon Derby?
The Derby is a putting tournament on the Lombard Green at The Olympic Club. 18 teams of eight players will play a scramble format for the lowest gross score. All ties will be decided by a card-off as determined by the Tournament Director. There will be hosted appetizers post-round at the reception.
The Derby is sold out, how can I participate?
Those who cannot play in the putting tournament are welcome to join us at the reception following golf at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are available and we appreciate your support.
I cannot attend but want to support?
Please make a contribution to the Dan Dillon Fund at The Olympic Club Foundation. All donations large and small are welcomed. If you have a goods or services, please consider a silent auction donation. Thank you.
About Daniel Kirk Dillon
Dan’s journey, life and community was so vast, it’s hard to sum up in a paragraph. Everyone will agree that Dan was a friend to all. Sam Whiting of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote a wonderful story about Dan’s life here:
